Sunrot – The Unfailing Rope (Prosthetic Records) [Sludge/Doom]
It’s hard to imagine anything gets much heavier than a sludge album dedicated to the casualties of the war on drugs. The newest from Sunrot is low, slow, bleak, and infuriated, railing against the institutions bringing about the end and mourning its victims in equal measure. And we, the listeners get to reap the benefits; the band knows their way around a riff, and whether it’s lurching and swampy or raging and violent, it’s all good stuff. 4/7/23 (Spear)
