Flush It Friday: The Wood, The Rad, and the Chugly

I almost wrote about how much the new Yellowcard sucks.

Ilúvatia Amaranthine Hollow
Fiadh Productions | October 3, 2025

I’ve been reading Jim Harrison’s The Search for the Genuine, and while there is perhaps an upper limit on the amount of essays on hunting and fishing I can stomach, I’ll never tire of such sentiments: “It doesn’t matter if you are far to the right of that round mound of bilge, Rush Limbaugh. It is in your interest as an outdoorsman to defend the integrity of your own bioregion, your prized watersheds.” I spend less time outdoors than I ought, so I transport myself with albums like Amaranthine Hollow. Majestic, salvific, expansive, delicate. Enchant me, wood sprites, I’m pleading.

Pluto’s Kiss S/T
Total Supply | September 23, 2025

Get a load of these Spoiler-created dudes and their brick-blasting shenanigans. If you couldn’t tell, we’re up to no good. Taking their cues from the riotous sound of early 00s Boston bands like Mental and Stop and Think as well as Jersey legends Floorpunch, Pluto’s Kiss is hardcore everlasting. Songs are short, to the point, full of tom beats and palm-muted boogie riffs, and meant to have you spazzin’ out. “The Ceiling,” “Enough,” and “The Limit” are all piss and vinegar. “Piggybank!” though still plenty pissed, has a perfect pinch of playfulness. Suckers are dead wrong and can save it.

THORN Coalescence
Independent | October 17, 2025

You may have heard it’s officially Sligm Tigm, so Phoenix’s THORN is selling off the lot. Both 2025’s Nebulous Womb of Eternity and 2022’s Yawning Depths, on CD and green/black splatter wax respectively, are available for $4 with just a few remaining. Or you can snag Coalescence, the band’s entire 55-song discography, at the low, low price of Name It. For those whose introduction to the band might’ve been 2023’s excellent Evergloom, this retrospective proffers you the opportunity to go spelunking in the cavernous catacombs of yore. You’ll find a Pelican riff on “Pagan’s Monolith” and even a Nausea cover!
