This week, we’ve got death for the divine, Boris core-loff, and what can only be a Linkin Park cover band. January has gone down the drain in record time, and we’re beginning to see a rising tide of releases from the M-Ariana trench. As always, let us know what we missed in the comments!

Guyođ aren’t interested in pleasure boatin’ or day-sailin’; their blackened seas conceal dissonance sharp as barnacles and an undertow of doom that will carry unsuspecting landlubbers to a watery grave. Whether channeling a captain’s bark with a mid-song vocal freakout (“Vortex of Infinite Despair”) or drowning a guitar lead in phaser effects, Death Throes… manages to conjure a marine setting without resorting to peg legs and shoulder parrots. (I’m reminded of an aquatic Ischemic.) The 4 “Signal” tracks (as yet unavailable) are something of a “red sky in morning,” as I assume they’re interludes, but given the skill of the crew, my hopes for sailor’s delight on Friday remain afloat. -Roldy
