Tethys – The Antikytherium (Independent) [Tech Death]
With the Inferis and Archspires of the world releasing stuff this week, let us not lose sight of Tethys in the shadow of these tech death titans. The Antikytherium sounds like an evolution of ’00s melodeath and metalcore; the band has a penchant for mid-paced groove and soaring melodies that echo that particular sound, but with much greater complexity. There’s some clean singing on this one that wouldn’t sound out of place on a trad metal record—uncommon in tech death, but it totally fits the vibe and gives the band more unique character. Big tech boys will want to keep an eye on this one. –Spear
