Shirt Stains: My Dying Bride Skateboard

My Dying Bride is a lot of things: gothic, orchestral, doomy, sad, depressing, beautiful. One thing they’re not is a band you listen to while doing goofy foot stalefish grab or while you’re playing Tony Hawk in your friend’s basement. How are you supposed to feel mournful longing when you’re grinding a rail outside a middle school? How can you feel the misery and remember that your body is a funeral when you’re surrounded by people having fun at the skatepark?

I know we now live in an era where you can slap your name or logo on anything and someone will buy it, but still. It’s so odd. My Dying Bride isn’t a “skateboarding” band. You’re supposed to quietly drink wine while looking out a rain-soaked window when you listen to the band. You’re supposed to remember all the loved ones you’ve lost and how, no matter what you do, inevitably, you will meet the same fate.

I kind of hope the band swapped places with a pop punk band for merch. Like, maybe there’s a Less Than Jake casket out there. Or a Yellowcard decanter. Oooh, how about Bowling For Soup swinging incense burner? That will go over well at Warped Tour.
