Magnetic Eye Records Want to Revisit Helmet’s Classic Meantime
Helmet‘s Meantime is one of the most important alternative metal releases ever dropped on the world of heavy music, and it is almost certainly to be inducted into our own Groundbreakers Hall of Fame at some point in time. Its influence cannot be overstated, with bands both expected and surprising bearing the DNA of this release in their sonic veins. So it isn’t unexpected that a collection of artists would pay tribute to this killer album. However, Magnetic Eye Records needs your help getting it done.
MER are attempting to fund a tribute album of covers from some utterly righteous bands through a Kickstarter campaign. Unfortunately, it seems that we weren’t the only ones who missed this news, and there are now only three days left to help the label pull this thing off. Magnetic Eye are still about half of the way to their goal ($2,616 of $5,000 has been raised), but the roster for this project is stacked. If it gets funded, it will end up being like that Kerrang tribute to Metallica‘s Master of Puppets, except good. MER have listed the following bands for the standard edition (that’s only songs from Meantime), but you can see the other bands that will be playing on the deluxe edition by checking out the campaign page.
- KEN MODE
- WATCHTOWER
- PHANTOM GLUE
- IRONWEED
- I AM BECOME DEATH
- FUCK THE FACTS
- FAMILY
- MEEK IS MURDER
- KINGS DESTROY
- THE GLORIOUS REBELLION
I’m not totally familiar with all of those acts, but based on the tracks posted to the page, this should be a crucial collection of chaotic and crushing tunes. You’re probably thinking, “Dubz, that’s all fine and good, but what do I get for backing the campaign?” Well, Magnetic Eye are offering some killer perks, from colored LPs for just $26, $20 t-shirts with exclusive art from Jesse Schaller, and a big $420 package with autographs, test pressings, CDs, and more. These perks are quite reasonable for the product, so help MER reach their end goal.
There are only a few days left in the campaign, so let’s help wrap this up. In the meantime (huehuehue), let’s jam, uh, Meantime.
