Not So Metal: Thank You Scientist
Fair warning: this band is NOT metal. But I think they’re definitely metal friendly. They’re also really amazing.
I just got wind through Facebook that one of my favoritest bands, New Jersey’s own Thank You Scientist, got signed. Their sole album, Maps of Non-Existent Places, has been remixed and remastered and will be released this coming September 30th. You can pre-order the vinyl here, and from what I understand, you can pre-order the CD soon, too.
So, why do I love these guys so damn much? Because they fuse pop, rock, prog, jazz, metal(ish), funk and big band-type stuff, and it works incredibly well. Have you ever heard something close to a breakdown played with sax, trumpet, violin and fretless guitar? I didn’t think so. It’s in the song “In the Company of Worms.” But it isn’t on Youtube, so here’s a different one:
They’re all extremely good musicians, and that shows. Guitarist Tom Monda is ridiculous, and I read somewhere that they can play like 20 different instruments collectively. I hope you dig them. If not, try this song. It rips.
Check out their site, like them on Facebook, buy their stuff and catch them on tour supporting Coheed & Cambria:
