Premiere: Bloodletter – “On Blackened Wings”

Leave the light behind? Don’t have to tell me twice.
By now, you know Bloodletter, I know Bloodletter, we all know and love Bloodletter. Some of us like Bloodletter so much that we’ve become addicted to premiering their music, which continues to get better and better. Really, the only thing you need to know is when there’s new Bloodletter, so let me conclude this love letter to Bloodletter with this: there’s new Bloodletter.
Bloodletter’s bread and butter (sorry, I’ll drop the bit now) continues to be melodic thrash, taking more than a few cues from black metal and melodeath in both sound and aesthetic. Leave the Light Behind sees them leaning into those influences harder with its horror-inspired lyrics and stepping up their musicianship. Our song today, “On Blackened Wings,” showcases both of these aspects; the band’s core sound remains the same, but the harmonies are more interesting, the guitar work more intricate, and damn if those drums don’t kick ass (check out the beat at 2:12). This all underscores a tale of an enigmatic rider atop a massive winged beast spreading fear and devastation:
We can all imagine it…a large looming, terrifying beast in the air and with a malicious and nefarious rider swinging a massive weapon. And as the evil beast swoops down with great speed, all who see it coming run for their lives! The black rider flies again and he’s come to destroy us all! This track is an anthem inspired by the terror that this rider spreads across the world.
