Premiere: The Wandering Ascetic – “Eva Braun”
Singaporean black metal fellas The Wandering Ascetic have a moody mid-paced jammer for you this afternoon. Listen now.
Old heads will know Rudra, the metal stalwarts that have been pumping out Hindu-based “Vedic Metal” since the early 90s. Kathir and Vinod, vocals and guitars respectively, have stepped out of Rudra to form the The Wandering Ascetic, eschewing traditional Indian instrumentation to focus on black metalled-up rock n roll with hypnotic guitar trances.
“Eva Braun”, the opening track to the band’s debut full-length Crimson, is a representative sample of the crunchy album it begins. “You are my enemy!”, Kathir growls as his partner in crime picks at an uneasy melody among the stomping rhythm section. Explore the folds and contours of your brain in a quest for higher enlightenment with The Wandering Ascetic. Listen now (and check out that sweet, sweet Mark Riddick artwork).
Crimson drops February 12th on Transcending Obscurity. Check out two more tracks and order the record on Bandcamp. Then go like The Wandering Ascetic on Facebook.
