Tag Diving: Demos Part 2
The first draft is a skeleton.
Welcome back to Tag Diving! You know how we do it, but in case you don’t, it’s the weekly-ish column where I, your ever-beloved Reliquary Tower, take a look through the troves of trash/treasure that is Bandcamp dot com in search of hidden gems, much like how a dumpster diver might dig through a massive metal mechanism in search of more literal hidden gems (i.e. the engagement ring she threw away after she found out about your pornogrind project). Let’s see what I’ve got for this week!
Undeath – Demo ’19
Not exactly an underground pick, but I didn’t know this demo existed! It feels a little more technical than I usually associate with Undeath, but that bludgeoning sound is still ever-present, and for being recorded in their practice space, this demo sounds better than a lot of studio-recorded LPs I’ve heard. I think “Archfiend Coercion Methods” is the only track from this release that made it to a later album, so if you’ve never heard this one before, it should feel pretty new!
BURIAL BLADE – Astral Defilement
Look man, I’ll stop being a sucker for Soulsborne-themed metal when it stops being cool. BURIAL BLADE has a lo-fi, blackened-doom-that’s-almost-kinda-slammy approach to music that I wouldn’t mind hearing more of. Combine that with a raw black and white j-card album cover and you’ve got a sure-fire way to keep me checking to see if you’ve got new stuff!
Send More Paramedics – Demo
On to our second zombie-themed offering this week, Send More Paramedics are a crossover thrash band that Joe and Jordan covered on an episode of the podcast some weeks ago. Their demo has a sort of death metal stank about it that I really dig, and as far as thrash goes, pretty solid vocals. I had a lot of fun with this album, so I’ll probably spend my weekend digging through their discography (as I am often wont to do).
