O fairest facility, most luminous lavatory, sweep away our sewage and our sorrows. This week we’ve got bestial bureau black metal, Preparation HxC, and two saviors (one is nice, one is naughty). Peer into these dark waters if you dare, but don’t say I didn’t warn you—this week was B E N T H I C C, so you’d better get to it!
Einvigi – Monokroma (Einheit Produktionen) [Blackgaze]
Monokroma‘s artwork is more Dopesmoker than De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas—a clockwork sun rises above blackened crags on the horizon, promising warmth and catharsis after an arduous journey. After a sun-kissed acoustic intro, “Tumman veden lapsi” erupts into anthemic meloblack riffs and reverb-laden (nearly choral) crooning, carefully balancing extremity and comfort as only the best blackgaze bands can.
Einvigi write songs that are sweet but not saccharine; introspective but never self-indulgent. The preview tracks all fall under 6 minutes, avoiding the bloat that plagues hypnotic music by altering tempos even in calmer sections. Whether strumming on a single coil or snarling over blastbeats, each member comes through in the punchy, balanced mix.
