This Toilet Tuesday (4/14/15)

It was an excruciating day at work. You were so hung over from the night before that you barely remember any of it, save for spending the entirety of your lunch break vomiting in the staff room’s sink. All the coffee you pounded throughout the day is starting to take its revenge, but there’s no going back now. The building is locked and you’re already getting in your car anyway. Just gotta hold it for a few minutes, you tell yourself as you pull out of the parking lot.

Turns out a few minutes was too much. The bloating feeling in your abdomen has become agonizing, your bowels screaming for relief. You limp as quickly as you can from your car once you reach the driveway; going too fast will surely spell your doom. You fumble with your keys at the front door, losing precious seconds. The cat runs for its life as you burst through the front door and hobble towards the bathroom. When he sees that it’s just you, however, he picks the worst time to be affectionate. He steps in front of you and rubs against your shin, upsetting your stuttering gait. You tumble forward and crack your head on the tile, inches from the toilet. Woozy from the blow, you accept defeat as your bowels unleash their gastric catastrophe into your pants.

In the grim darkness of This Toilet Tuesday, there is only filth.

Bretus – The Shadow Over Innsmouth (BloodRock Records) [Doom]
Preview

I don’t typically like album teasers. Unlike modern movie trailers, album trailers really give very little idea of what you’re truly going to encounter on a record. However, it is fairly obvious from this teaser of Bretus’s The Shadow Over Innsmouth that we’re in for riff worship and mid-range vocal theatrics. This is not a bad thing. Stoned Lovecraft fans are quite likely in for a treat here. FFO: KJM, Ufomammut, Black Sabbath (W.)

Let’s get sad! Did the Ghost Bath false origin story leave a bad taste in your mouth? Do you spend hours staring at the floor trying to put your feelings into words? Do you like black metal more focused on self-alienation and the frailty of life than satanic werewolves acting unbecoming towards women of the cloth? Then Russian blackgazers Voivotus have just the thing for you in Oma Randa. FFO: Ghost Bath, Deafheaven, So Hideous (W.)

Regurgitate Life

Regurgitate Life – The Defiled Face of Existence (Independent) [Tech Death]
Stream

Regurgitate Life is a band I only just recently discovered but I’m really digging them. They write exceptional technical brutal death metal. Honestly, this band reminds me a LOT of Deeds of Flesh. Definitely worth your time if you are a DOF fan. Check em out. (Jack Bauer)

Penitenziagite – Humanity Galore (On Parole) [Death Metal]
Listen

Sometimes in the endless pursuit of something heavier, something more challenging, we forget to sit back and simply enjoy the music. It’s for these moments that I turn to bands like Penitenziagite. They are refreshing in their straightforwardness, with their distinctly old-school approach to riffing and Deicide-esque vocal delivery. With just enough technical aptitude and shredding to keep things interesting without becoming self-servicing, this is headbanging material at its finest. (Spear)

Infernal War – Axiom (Agonia Records) [Death Metal]
Listen to “Into Dead Soil,” “Transfigure”

This was my first experience with Infernal War, but it most definitely will not be my last. They clearly give away their Polish nationality with a furious slab of blackened death metal, punctuating their tunes with blazing solos and feverish tremolo riffs. Fans of Behemoth and Hate will surely find themselves windmilling along, or pumping their HAIL! fists halfway through “Into Dead Soil” when the song slows to a plodding, headbangable groove. If you’re tired of relenting in your life, keep your eye on this album for a new personal soundtrack. Pick it up here. (Stockhausen)

Outre – Ghost Chants (Godz ov War) [Black Metal]
Listen to “Chant 3 – The Fall”

I love that black metal is getting more multifaceted. The grim, bleak mood created by the music here is absolutely black metal, but the vocal delivery in Outre could just as easily work in a death metal band. The two styles merge fantastically, and the excellently paced sections of “Chant 3 – The Fall” give the listener distinct landmarks for a distinctly memorable tune. The guitars cover a range of approaches, making time for some dissonant moments and clearing a space for atmospheric throat singing around the halfway point. Based on this one song, I have some seriously high hopes for this album. I enjoyed their split with Thaw, and I have every reason to believe this offering will be fantastic. (Stockhausen)
