Greetings, Toilet urchins, and welcome to another This Toilet Tuesday! The summer continues to be anything but dry with a bevy of great new music of all styles. It’s easy to get lost in all this music; for every new piece you listen to, you bookmark three for later, and by the time you’ve listened to that, there are twenty more new albums to get to, so you bookmark the new new stuff and get back to the past stuff but it’s all just piling up and you’ve barely made a dent and you don’t know where to start because you can’t remember what you’ve already listened to and oh god send help.

anal caper

Anal Vomit/Ordo Caper – Culto de los Venenos (split- Dunkelheit Produktionen) [Blackened Thrash/Death Metal]
Listen to “Sendero Siniestro” (AV), “Igboddu,” “Acid Orgy” (OC)

With a name like Anal Vomit, you know you’re in for some bestial black filth of the most malicious, and unintentionally humorous, kind. Except that Anal Vomit are a typical South American Blackthrashers. And as you know, SA black/thrash is some of the most vicious. So expect raw production, bulging bass and bloodied vocals over plain, but capable Peruvian riffs. On a short release like this split the band ought to be at their best. They’ve been paired up with Ordo Caper who do deliver the bestial black filth I longed for. With Hellhammer-influenced guitar-noise and Profanatica-like mid-tempo devastation they leave no survivors behind. The only memorable feature, however, are the two vocal tracks delivering at a slightly different pace.

All in all, a regular but pleasantly nasty, blackened split. 7/18/16 (Karhu)

svirnath

Svirnath – Il regno della natura (Naturmacht Productions) [Black Metal]
Listen to “Light of the Sun”

Naturmacht Productions is a label you can trust to deliver quality. If you’re not full of atmospheric black metal, not entirely dissimilar to trees ‘n shit, the nature-hailing Italians of Svirnath would like to persuade you with a synth-laden album that doesn’t forget riffs or sound sterile. 7/23/16 (Karhu)

defeated sanity

Defeated Sanity – Disposal of the Dead/Dharmata (Willowtip Records) [Tech/Brutal Death]
Stream

This “split” album from Defeated Sanity is a pretty strange idea. I get it. The guys are talented musicians and wanted to show off their different influences and abilities. That’s all fine and good, but it’s pretty bizarre hearing the Dharmata material after the Disposal of the Dead songs. As you’d expect, it comes off like a mix tape of Brodequin and Cynic. Extremely open-minded listeners may enjoy both sides, but I can’t imagine most won’t feel extremely underwhelmed by the whole product after enjoying one half or the other. FFO: Dying Fetus, Embodied Torment, Orchidectomy/Atheist, later Death, fart noises 7/22/16 (W.)

selves we cannot forgive

Black Crown Initiate – Selves We Cannot Forgive (eOne Entertainment) [Tech Death/Progressive Metal]
Listen to “Vicious Lives,” “Selves We Cannot Forgive,” “For Red Cloud”

I’d been feeling lukewarm about Black Crown Initiate after forcing myself to try to enjoy The Wreckage of Stars a hundred times, but something changed when I heard “Vicious Lives.” I don’t know if the music has improved or if I’m just looking at it a different way now, but there’s something about it that has rekindled my interest in the band. It feels both familiar and new, grounded emotively in the past and looking aurally to the future. It’s hard to say what the full album will sound like, but these three tunes have me cautiously optimistic. 7/22/16 (Spear)
