Sarcator – Sarcator (Redefining Darkness) [Thrash]

Putting out an album on a label when you’re still in high school can be, depending on the context, kinda impressive. When you can write savage thrash metal a la “Circle of Impurity,” intense riff after riff, gravelly vocals, a slight hint of melody at times and keep your songs memorable and engaging without constantly adhering to the strictest measure of metal songwriting, it can be much more so. But riding on the coattails of one of the member’s dad in the promo is the antithesis of this, brutal fuck off Redefining Darkness. 10/30/20 (Karhu)
Grafvitnir – Death’s Wings Widespread (Carnal Records) [Black Metal]

Grafvitnir does not change. Their serpentine black metal was perfected at birth and the fire which bore it has proven an endless source of passion and inspiration. For malevolence born of fire, Death’s Wings Widespread is full of freezing riffs and frigid melodies, offering no respite, no calm in the face of calamity. 10/30/20 (Karhu)
Occult Burial – Burning Eerie Lore (Invictus Productions) [Black Thrash]

If you ever find yourself in the mood for some extremely good, thrashing tunes with a couple of first wave black metal worshipping songs, and a more straightforward speed metal track thrown in, lead with blood-curdling screams, you won’t do much better than Occult Burial. Glacier – The Passing of Time (No Remorse Records) [Heavy/Power Metal]

An old school power metal band straight outta the eighties, Glacier is best known for their ’85 EP, but vocalist Michael Podrybau has been back with an otherwise new line-up of Trials/Vader/Morbid Saint veterans for a couple of years now, and with The Passing of Time, finally jumps on the full-length train. Melodic power metal in the traditional US vein is the name of the game, at least for the most part, as some songs have a more hard rocking vibe bleeding through but let that not deter you (if it even was going to), for Glacier’s debut is very good and much fun. 10/30/20 (Karhu)
