Toilet Tuesday comes again, and the new releases are falling like autumn leaves. That is to say, there’s a shitload of them all over my yard and I need to rake them up and get rid of them lest I get fined by the city. Help me get all this crap off my lawn and let me know if there’s anything good in it.
Unleash the Archers – Explorers (Napalm Records) [Power Metal]

Any new Unleash the Archers material is worth getting excited for as far as I’m concerned, even a two-song covers EP. “Northwest Passage” is a super beefed-up rendition of the Stan Rogers classic, replacing the earthen folksy vibe of the original with all the power and bombast UtA is known for. “Heartless World” plays a little closer to the Teaze original, though with noticeably less sax and a whole lot more galloping riffs. I’m not going to go so far as to say Explorers is necessary listening, but fans of Unleash the Archers and power metal as a whole will certainly enjoy this EP. 10/11/19 (Spear)
Carcinoid/Gosudar – split (Fucking Kill Records) [Death Doom]

One look at that cover art should tell you all you need to know about this comp. Carcinoid and Gosudar both deal in quality death doom, peddling monster riffs caked with filth. Nothing flashy, nothing groundbreaking, but extremely solid nonetheless. Carcinoid also has a new full-length out this week (link below), and it’s very much worth the listen. Give this a shot if you need some nasty tunes to start off your day. 10/11/19 (Spear)
