This Toilet Tuesday (6/15/21)
We know you’re fiending for new music, so here’s a Toilet Tuesday. It’s an especially good one (or at least a well-populated one) if you’re into power metal and/or various flavors of trad metal, but most people will be spoiled for choice regardless of their particular tastes. Lots of stuff to jam, so hit that list and let us know what you’re putting on this week.
Param-Nesia – Aspect of Creation (Independent) [Melodeath]
Listen
Melodeath with prog tendencies is almost always a good time, and based on the two preview tracks, Param-Nesia sound like they’ve got a good grasp on how to write smart riffs without sacrificing the fun factor. It’s hard to beat dark melodies at an uptempo pace, too, so this is shaping up to be a solid little EP. I could do without the tuff-guy lyrics, but that shouldn’t stymie its quality too much. 6/18/21 (Spear)
Galneryus – Union Gives Strength (Warrior Music) [Power Metal]
Listen to “Whatever It Takes”
I’d wager that most people with even a passing knowledge of power metal know what Galneryus are all about, and Union Gives Strength doesn’t really change anything in that regard. They’re still ridiculously over-the-top, Syu and Yuhki still (rightfully) flaunt their skill at every given opportunity, and they still riff harder than just about every other power metal band out there. The key difference is this doesn’t sound quite as harshly sterile as their past two albums, making it a fair bit easier on the ears. Highly recommended if you’re into power metal in any of its forms. 6/18/21 (Spear)
