Cosmic Putrefaction – Emerald Fires Atop the Farewell Mountains (Profound Lore Records) [Prog Death]
Despite the dizzying complexity and density of Cosmic Putrefaction’s songwriting, the preview tracks from Emerald Fires Atop the Farewell Mountains offer enough footholds to keep listeners from tumbling into the void. Returning session drummer Giulio Galati’s varied rhythms and flourishes should clash with the bludgeoning, extended-range guitars, but the spacious production allows these sounds to coexist without being flattened by the album’s immense gravity.
