O Cloggèd Can, O Broken Bemis, forgive mine own sins for last Tuesday’s dropping of the WP TP. This week we’ve got diesel deathgrind, Chthonian Apple products, and amps that go up to 11. As is usually the case, there’s something below for just about everyone, even the freaks who go directly to the red volume warning bands (I know you’re out there.) Mortal Scepter – Ethereal Dominance (Xtreem Music) [Deathrash]
We last received word from the Mortal Scepter 6 years ago with Where Light Suffocates, which, in blhindsight, should’ve tipped off Mission Control that things were deteriorating within her hull even then. Judging from the contents of the distress beacon, the situation in orbit around Opticus-VII has gone FUBAR: the thrash and death specimens have escaped their cages and begun mating (with fervor, based on the tempo); production quality suggests a wormhole to 1986 has opened in the vicinity; blackened riffs unfold from the walls, and dissonant voices proclaim, “Game over, man!” Between bursts of static, strains of Sodom, Suffering Hour, and Dark Angel can be heard, interspersed with alien influences unknown to history. The recording ends with a particularly concerning message, delivered by impossible organs: “September 9. Ethereal Dominance.” Looks like we don’t have much time. -Roldy
