This Toilet Tuesday (8/25/15)
Greetings, friends of the bowl, and welcome to another round of This Toilet Tuesday. Time passes; bands pour forth their endeavors before us, often vanishing as quickly as they appear. Some will go on to obtain some modicum of success, while most will fade into obscurity. Fewer still, however, will surge forth into the limelight and emblazon their name forever on the face of history and culture. These few, the bands presented below… well, probably aren’t going to be it, but hey, they’re pretty cool. Check ’em.
Plaguewielder – Chambers of Death (Horror Pain Gore Death) [Doom/Sludge]
Listen to “Drowned”
Luxembourg is a very small country. Bordered by other, bigger countries, it has a population of like, 5 people and probably a lot of goats. 4 out of those 5 people are in a band billed as “the only active doom/sludge band in Luxembourg.” Plaguewielder puts an excellent spin on that combination of genres, showing a serious knack for atmosphere in their music alongside doomy riffage and sludgy weight. Out of the two tracks that are available, there is a surprising range of style with this band; “Father Suicide” has an undeniable emotional tug throughout, while “Drowned” lurches by ominously. Pick this one up 8/25/15 courtesy of Horror Pain Gore Death Productions. (Stockhausen)
Ahab – The Boats of the Glen Carrig (Napalm Records) [Death/Doom]
Stream
I don’t think I’m alone in believing Ahab’s Call of the Wretched Sea was their finest hour. The Divinity of Oceans and The Giant were both good, but didn’t quite reach the fathomless depths of their predecessor. Ahab look to rectify that with the release of The Boats of the Glenn Carrig, and while I don’t think they’ve achieved their goal, it is a solid-if-unremarkable entry in their low and slow catalogue, but perhaps your mileage will vary. The only way to find out is to click the link and submerge yourself into the sea. 8/28/15 (Leif Bearikson)
Funebria – Dekatherion: Ten Years of Hate and Pride (Satanath Records) [Blackened Death]
Listen to “Aeon of Tyranny”
Venezuelan malandros Funebria have emerged from the corruption and violence of their home country to unleash a diatribe of pure hatred for their fellow man. Dekatherion – Ten Years of Hate and Pride celebrates their decade-long career of debauchery and misanthropy in a suitably seditions black metal fashion that is unmistakably South American. Expect plenty of hurricane blasts and ear-splitting shrieks. FFO: Odosha, Krueger, Korpus Inc. 8/29/15 (W.)
