When I hear “fast,” I think early 00s thrash. This is originally from the Premium Iced Tea 7″, a record that always spoke to my Southern sensibilities.

Psycroptic – ‘Upon These Stones’ (Riff @ 1:58)
While the vast majority of other noodly tech death fails to hold my interest, Psycroptic stays in my rotation. Mostly because I’m pretty sure Joe Haley is a robot.

Focus – ‘Hocus Pocus’ (Riff @ 3:55)
If for some reason you’ve never seen this video, today’s your lucky day, bub. This may well be the rippingest live performance on all of YouTube. They shave a good 3-4 minutes off the studio version, which I think is partly achieved by cutting out parts, but it’s mostly due to the band bringing their absolute A-est of game and murdering the song at (at least) double speed. It seems like they’re coming in faster than before after every… um… “verse”, so I picked the last iteration of the main riff. By this point it’s played on the bass because the guitarist is super busy being ON FUCKING FIRE, but really, you owe it to yourself to watch this thing in full anyway. It never fails to make me happy.

Hexecutor – ‘Macabre Ceremony’ (Riff @ 0:00)
Wasn’t gonna submit but the lack of entries for this basic-ass theme is disappointing as hell. First thing I could think of was these French maniacs. Hexecutor only play fast.
