Riff Of The Week: Grind Edition

Before we get to grindin’, let’s take a look at the results from last week’s ÏÇÉŁÅŊÐ Edition. While I was surprised to not see a Svartmidaððy, Sinmama, or Nanðdra submission, it was not a surprise to see Misþyrming pick up the win in their absense. At the end of the day, everyone except Björk wins.

On bent knees crawling back to the replay button because this riff will get stuck in your head.

Nasum – Scoop (riff @ 1:52)

It can’t really be a Grind edition without a Nasum track. There are any number of riffs I could have chosen, but this one always stands out. The interplay between the guitar and bass is phenomenal, and is a cracking way to end the teack.

Full of Hell – “Branches of Yew” (Riff @ 0:04)

Because A) it’s a sick fucking riff, and B) someone made a Guitar Hero thingy for it (I’m out of the loop with both video games and the Internet; is this a common thing that people do?).

Beaten To Death – ‘Døv, Døvere, Død’ (Riff @ 0:20)

I think this was the moment when this album, and subsequently this band, really clicked with me. Tender enough to make you believe you can change these bad boys, but deep down, you know you don’t really want to.
