Nightmarer – Hell Interface (Total Dissonance Worship) [Dissonant Tech Death]
Dali’s The Persistence of Memory (1931) is one of the most well-known works of Surrealism, but the “sequel” (painted during his dissotech era) is equally fascinating: a fragmented, mechanistic landscape reflects his fascination with nuclear physics in the wake of the atomic bomb. Oregon’s Nightmarer atomize their audience in a similar fashion with down-tuned palm-mutes you feel as a drop in your stomach, riffs that seem to both twist in on themselves and slough off a song’s bones (reminiscent of Imperial Triumphant), and eerie ambience that radiates from Hell Interface‘s moments of relative calm.
