This Toilet Tuesday (1/3/23)
Our first Toilet Tuesday of 2023 is short and sweet, which should help you get all caught up on all the year-end stuff in the metalsphere. Not to say there’s nothing good on the way (at least one or two besides the highlighted album is worth a listen), but I’m happy for a break from being inundated with new albums. Let us know if there’s anything new and noteworthy that we’ve missed.
Iravu – A Fate Worse than Home (Vita Detestabilis/Fiadh Productions) [Black Metal]
I don’t find myself actively engaging with atmospheric black metal terribly often, but Iravu kept my attention for a number of reasons. Beyond simply having a good ear for chord layering required for this type of music, Iravu punctuates their dreamy melodic passages with some solid riffs and incredibly flashy leads. It sounds great too, with a big open feel to the production that accentuates that drifting sensation in the music. Plus, sales from this go to a LGBT+ and homeless assistance organization in Malaysia, so you can get yourself some sweet tunes while putting your money to a good cause. 1/6/23 (Spear)
