This Toilet Tuesday (10/17/17)
Oh shit, it’s Toilet Tuesday again. I’ll spare you a grisly intro this week because I’m tired as hell and there’s a lot of music coming out, so let’s cut to the chase. Hans and I have grabbed a couple sweet jams for you to check out, but be sure to skim over that absurdly long list for more.
Cryostasium – Starbound (Grimm Distribution) [Black Metal]

Pre-microtonal Jute Gyte played by a slightly (slightly!) saner man. Less keen on mathematical compositions and vocals, much more fond of synths. The riffs mostly have the same disconcerting, vertigo-inducing quality, and the synths add a thick layer of what-exactly-is-going-on. Repetition gives everything a transfixing, sometimes droning quality without becoming boring – it’s too unsettling for that. 17/10/16 (Hans)

Alright, I may have clicked this because the name made me think of Night Demon, but I think fans of them will not be unhappy about this. The preview track boasts some to-the-point, fun metal with an old-school vibe. Just check out that riff hitting shortly after the one-minute mark. High energy throughout and a catchy chorus on top of it all. Also FFO Crucial Taunt. 17/10/20 (Hans)

Grimy black metal with sick shreds and big riffs? Yes, please. At the time of this writing, “Echoes Sung by Winter Winds” was the only song available for listening, but it was more than enough to get me excited. It kicks things off with a big, sinister riff that evokes a classic horror vibe, shortly joined by a fiery melodic guitar solo. The song progresses without too many surprises, but it’s the quality of the riffs and the pacing that really set it apart. All around solid black metal. 10/17/17 (Spear)
