Chaos Inception – Vengeance Evangel (Lavadome Productions) [Death]
Vengeance Evangel surfaces after a 13-year gap in Chaos Inception’s history; it stinks of the grave, and all that time rotting in the dirt has done wonders for their sound. From mechanical blasting in the vein of Krisiun to sludgy tremolos that reek of Gateways to Annihilation, the album is an odious ode to death metal history, yet never comes off as derivative. This is no easy task, but attention to detail from session drummer Kevin Paradis, varied tempos throughout, and effective genre blending sets the band’s stench above other meat and potatoes death. Also, “10,000 Dead By Pincer” is a delightful song title. -Roldy
