Toilet Tuesday comes ’round once more; you know the drill. We’ve got a bunch of new music, and Karhu and I have picked out a couple sweet jams to cram into your ears, but you should let us know if there’s any other cool stuff we should hear. As always, tell us about it in the comments.

Aeonian Sorrow – A Life Without (Independent) [Funeral Doom]
Stream

An international project lead by Gogo Melone, originally formed around her and co-vocalist Alejandro Lotero, mostly from members of Red Moon Architect. After their debut, both Lotero and RMA mastermind Saku Moilanen left the group. But the balance has been restored and holes filled by Daniel Neagoe (Shape of Despair, Clouds, Eye of Solitude) and Ville Rutanen (Red Moon Architect). For the 35 minute EP, Melone has crafted four forlorn death/doom songs, woefully melodic and not unlike RMA, bordering on funeral doom pace. It’s fairly standard for the style, apart from the balance of the beauty and the beast vocal approach leaning heavily Melone’s favour. Well done, though fairly standard melodoom/death that shouldn’t leave any fan of the genre cold. And Rutanen’s beastly performance is particularly commendable. 2/7/20 (Karhu)

Assassin – Bestia Immundis (Massacre Records) [Thrash]
Listen to “The Swamp Thing”

A Teutonic thrash band from the 80’s, sounding exactly like one, and which already reunited almost 20 years ago, though guitarist Scholli is the sole remainder of Assassin’s original run. Boasting Ingo Bajonczak of Sodom refugees Bonded, and scene-legend Frank Blackfire of Sodom/Kreator on guitars, Assassin’s tighter than they’ve been in ages and though the riffs fall short of excellence, the amount of vitriol spewn elevates especially “The Swamp Thing” to greater heights. 2/7/20 (Karhu)

Tómarúm – Wounds Ever Expanding (Independent) [Technical Black Metal]
Listen to “Throes of Life, Forever Entwined”

You all know I like me some tech death, and this ever-expanding list of technical black metal bands has me all hot and bothered. When I say “technical black metal,” I mean stuff that plays to more typical tech death norms- think more Singularity than Deathspell Omega. Tómarúm is the newest of these bands to throw their hat in the ring, and they stand easily alongside the aforementioned band in terms of compositional strength. It’s melancholy and melodic, but fast and powerful as well. “Throes of Life, Forever Entwined” is a beast of a song, and I’m already a little sad this is just a two-song EP; I’m going to need more from these guys as soon as possible. 2/7/20 (Spear)
