It’s Toilet Tuesday. You know the drill. Get your fresh new music here, folks.

Khruangbin – Mordechai (Dead Oceans) [Psychedelic Funk]

I could have combed through this list and picked some rando band to shoot the shit about but I’d doing all of us a disservice. This is the big release of the week and it fucking rips. Been spinning this on wax since Thursday annnnnnd boooooi…it’s probably the smoothest record since they dropped that amazing EP Texas Sun with Leon Bridges in February. A slick mix of African and Latin guitar, funky ass bass lines and Laura Lee’s ethereal vocals is everything you hoped and dreamed of, and you didn’t even know it. Mix 1 part Absinthe with 4 parts lemonade. Add ice and chunks of watermelon. If you cant get absinthe, use Pastis as a substitute. You now have the perfect soundtrack and drink to kick your feet up to this summer while the world burns around you. 6/26/20 (Uncle Fuck)

Fellwarden – Wreathed in Mourncloud (Eisenwald) [Black Metal]
Listen

Fen’s The Watcher is back for another solo trees n shit black metal outing, this time inspired by countless wanderings around England’s Lake District. More traditional in it’s approach than it’s mother band, but by no means lacking in dynamics, Fellwarden offers excellent, regretful, bitter but also somber black metal of forest variety. 6/26/20 (Karhu)

Voodus – Open the Otherness (Helter Skelter Productions) [Melodic Black Metal]
Stream

Two years ago, Voodus debuted with Into the Wild, an adventurous but traditional meloblack album. Always a fan of longer songs, Voodus’ latest consists of only two 10+ minute tracks, but they’ve always had the skill to write them as well. Riffs, moods, tempos, styles and transitions are still traded with passion, consistency and cohesion that few can rival. 6/22/20 (Karhu)

Wino – Forever Gone (Ripple Music) [Doom/Rock]
Listen

Known best for his work in a myriad of doom metal bands, Wino Weinrich has also released several solo and duo albums, most of them acoustic. It’s been ten years since his last solo outing though, and neither of the singles reach among his better, but I’d like to believe some of the rest will. 6/26/20 (Karhu)

Purtenance – Buried Incarnation (Xtreem Music) [Death Metal]
Listen to “Deathbed Confession”

The classic Finnish death metal band that keeps on giving. Line-up adjustments that have made vocalist Aabeg Gautam the bassist as well, haven’t much affected the music. From riff to tone, from Harri Salo’s drumwork to Juha Aalto’s and Tero Rannikko’s solos, Buried Incarnation is all Purtenance. There’s a fair amount of diversity between “The Malicious Moon’s” catchiness, “Wrapped in Lamentation’s” melodicness and “Burial Secrecy’s” doom, which encompasses much of the record, but it’s woven to a coherent cloth, and a more fully realized version of the sound Paradox and Flame hinted at. 6/26/20 (Karhu)
