This Toilet Tuesday (7/16/19)
It’s another Toilet Tuesday, and we’ve got a pretty solid showing this week. There’s some crust, some black metal, and even some sludge, and I hear that one Bloodborne band is putting out a new album or something. There should be a little something for everyone, so check out some new tunes and share your own picks.
Mefitis – Despair (Independent) [Progressive Black Metal]
Listen to “Cetus”
Black metal tropes deftly mixed with thrashy bits and some prog rock parts. An interestingly crunchy, low-gain sound and pretty savage vocals. Very different vibe than on their first EP. 7/19/19 (Hans)
Sekkusu – Satyrömania (HPGD) [Crust]
Listen
Pretty straightforward but extremely fun crusty stuff that, from all I can see, doesn’t do a single thing wrong. The cool riff in the middle of the song is a nice reprieve from the full-on d-beat parts, and the solo at the end rules. I’m intrigued by the mention of Devil Master in the press text; I don’t hear any influence so far, but if the rest of the album boasts a goth-y vibe here and there, that would make it all the more interesting. 7/19/19 (Hans)
Boatman’s Toll – The Fat Is in the Fire (Seeing Red Records) [Sludge/Death Metal]
Stream
So I found out this album was self-released back in 2017 as I began writing this, but… eh. This deserves your attention- I haven’t gotten through the entire thing yet, but at first blush, The Fat is in the Fire feels very much like a more death metal Mastodon. It’s heavy and chaotic, but deceptively intelligent; give it a listen, because everyone missed it the first time around. 7/19/19 (Spear)
