This Toilet Tuesday (8/20/24)
O dolorous depths ov Toilet, deliver us from the doldrums of daily life. This week we’ve got C.S. Lewis-core, pyramid shid, and an old-growth forest. The summer drought of releases seems to be in the rear-end view, and the Great Constipation of Metal-Archives is fit to burst. Let’s wade around one last time before the deluge; tell us what we missed in the comments!
Demiser – Slave to the Scythe (Blacklight Media) [Blackthrash]
My Honda Civic göat-drawn chariot has been running on sulfuric fumes for most of 2024, with few blackthrash releases standing out in this crowded field; though all the devils are here, it took the keen scythe of Demiser to harvest my soul. With influences ranging from crust punk to the anthemic melodies of Skeletonwitch‘s Beyond the Permafrost, the band has remembered to practice the cardinal sin of the black arts: fun. The kinetic energy of tracks like “Hell is Full of Fire” is further elevated by gang vocals and melodic shredding that are sure to possess the faculties of any within earshot of this raucous ritual. Blasphemy abounds; libations pour like blood; a flash of teeth in the darkness betrays a smile. -Roldy
