This Toilet Tuesday (8/25/20)
You want new jams? We’ve got plenty today, and while I’m not familiar with a lot of the names on this week’s list, a fair amount of the snippets I listened to sounded promising. Hans and Karhu have a couple good’uns highlighted, but there’s sure to be something you’ll enjoy if those don’t do it for you.
Panzerfaust – The Suns of Perdition – Chapter II: Render unto Eden (Eisenwald) [Black Metal]

A mere year after Part 1, Panzerfaust return with more gruesome tales of war, and still, the goal is not merely to induce shellshock with relentless blasts. Rather, the multi-faceted horrors of the trenches are depicted in lengthy, cleverly constructed songs packed with interesting drumming and winding, ever so slightly dissonant riffs. While shifting frequently, the preview tracks nonetheless make a point of reiterating familiar parts, so that no one’s left behind in the fray. War never changes, but here’s a good example that its depiction in metal can be done tastefully. 8/28/20 (Hans)

On the surface, the hardcore/grind group that isn’t Poison Idea has changed. Lilker’s retired and turns out Buzz “Proud Boys Stan” Osborne wrote The Bootlicker as self-referential, so with the addition of John Cooke, Venomous Concept is essentially Napalm Death with a Kevin Sharp. Essentially sounds like Napalm Death as a hardcore band too, and the back to back duo of “Eliminate”/”Lemonade” has to be an Overkill reference. 8/28/20 (KARHU)
