O cardinal crapper, we followers of the feces beseech thee: accept this offal offering, and bestow us with regularity. This week we’ve got blackened D&Death, dasharez0ne-core, and the most dissonant cupboard you’ll ever AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. The water’s a bit shallow this week, but this serves only to make each protruding morsel all the more odorous. Dive in!
Uncaved – Dogmatorraistes (Independent) [Prog Death]
I’m not sure what Uncaved means; is it an allusion to escaping Plato’s allegorical darkness? Remaining stoic under crushing weights? Bats leaving their roost in search of sustenance? It’s a word as mutable as this band’s sound: from bouncy, Luscombe-era Cormorant grooves to Nile‘s longform trem riffs, these songs weave a prog death tapestry with threads from distant genres. Metalcore and tech death intertwine with knots of Nevermore and unorthodox theatrics recall the I, Voidhanger roster of loveable weirdos—and that’s just in the two available tracks! In true prog form, I have no idea what awaits in the rest of the album, but my beak is certainly piqued. -Roldy
