Bow before the porcelain throne on This Toilet Tuesday. Like a $1 gas station egg sandwich, the releases this week have left me feeling pretty uninspired, so no grandiose tale of painful bowel movements. However, like the messy aftermath of said sandwich, some bits came through undigested. W. and I have plucked them from the tepid muck (barehanded, by the way) and present them for you here. Don’t forget to hit the list below, too; you might catch something I missed.

Creeping – Revenant (Daemon Worship) [Death/Doom]
Stream

Creeping put a welcome spin on doom tropes, setting a high bar for heaviness in the process. Not content to simply hold single notes for absurd periods in order to generate gravity, the band actually speeds up their doom metal attack to bring you some utterly stampeding riffs. Songs on Revenant vary from slow to mid-paced, but the changes in rhythm really add a sense of urgency and foreboding to the album. When the band actually does slow down the assault, the effect is like suddenly dropping into a bottomless pit and bouncing off the walls for all eternity. Cavernous vocals and malevolent whispers only add to the alarming atmosphere and make the fall that much more uncomfortable. FFO: House of Capricorn, Ulcerate, Asphyxiate 8/10/15 (W.)

dalkhu

Dalkhu – Descend… Into Nothingness (Satanath Records) [Blackened Death]
Listen to “E.N.N.F.” “The Fireborn”

Dissonance, meet melody. Brutality, meet emotion. W., meet your new obsession. Slovenia’s Dalkhu have released a beautiful collage of some of the best elements of metal, and you simply have to hear it. The song construction is erudite without ever overpowering. The vocals are guttural while still providing a certain degree of feeling to the overall affair. The riffs themselves are immense and combative like warring Titans, yet they are given a certain warmth and levity by the lithe, melodic solos. It may seem strange to release the final track as the advanced single, but if “E.N.N.F.” is anything to judge the remainder of Descend… into Nothingness by, Dalkhu are poised to take you on a journey equal parts soulful and scarring. FFO: Krallice, Abusiveness, Desolate Shrines 8/15/15 (W.)

stryvigor

Stryvigor – До прірви холоду (Svarga/Fimbulvinter) [Black Metal]
Listen to “Eye of the Storm”

Sometimes, I like my black metal to sound just as pissed as my death or thrash. Stryvigor deliver the anger in spades, due in large part to the vocalist’s Nergalesque delivery. The artwork for the “Eye of the Storm-” a dragon emblem behind a snowstorm- single fits perfectly; they hit with the force of a blizzard. On fire. 8/13/15 (Spear)
