Behold: Toilet Tuesday! As we enter October, that most metal of months, we can expect to see new music flowing as freely through our eager earholes as pumpkin spice flows through the veins of basically every white American girl from September to January. Though the lists stretch longer with each night, we will never cease in our quest to bring them to you. Because you clearly don’t have enough to catch up on already. Have at it, toileteers!

DeathDealerHallowedGround

Death Dealer – Hallowed Ground (SMG Records) [Power Metal]
Listen to “Plan of Attack”

This is some Grade-A stinky power metal cheese, but I dig it. Falsetto vocals soar above blaster beam riffs like vengeful robot eagles intent on bringing death from above in their thunderous, unrelenting charge. Thankfully, Death Dealer seem aware of how ridiculous this all is, but that only lends the music more credence. This certainly won’t be for everyone, but it’s a fun romp through the more sci-fi spectrum of dragon-bangery. FFO: Judicator, ShadowStrike, Twilight Force 10/2/15 (W.)

borgne

Borgne – Règne des morts (Those Opposed Records) [Industrial/Black Metal]
Listen to “Void Miasma”

If the spoopy sci-fi effects at the beginning are any indication, Borgne are intent on dragging you into the cold, lifeless void of outer space. I’d like to hear the rest of the album before I judge how successfully they manage to knock us out of orbit, but “Void Miasma” is certainly promising. The gene-splicing between the synths and frozen comet chords has stolen my supply of oxygen, and that constant asteroid belt percussive pummel has left my life-support capsule badly damaged. Too bad you can’t hear me screaming. FFO: Darkspace, Wolok, Aborym 9/28/15 (W.)

gravsang

Gravsang – La dine Taarer livet Begrave (Pest Productions) [Doom/Depressive]
Stream

Well-made and -produced black metal leaning on the depressive side. The doomier parts and acoustic sections add variation, which is often desired but rarely delivered in this kind of music. Songwriting remains consistent throughout without the album becoming a faceless mass. I’d like to say more better things about this but I haven’t quite wrapped myself around it yet. Look for a review, or not. 9/30/15 (Karhu)

saurom

Saurom – Sueños (Maldito Records) [lolbuttz]
Listen to “Sueños Perdidos”

This was tagged lolbuttz, I suppose it deserved it. If you don’t mind casual, harmless rock music with a Śpaniard singing about stuffs in his native language this could be for you. Except that Saurom doesn’t offer casual, harmless rock. Sure, the basis of their sound is the same as any radio rock band but the focus is on the flutes, accordions, violins and whatnots. Playing the folk-music card gives them quite a big advantage over most “radio rock” bands I’ve had the displeasure of hearing this year. That and my Mexican is a little rusty so the lyrics can’t bother me. And based on my limited knowledge of the language (and the videos) I’m happier that way. 10/2/15 (Karhu)

temple of baal

Temple of Baal – Mysterium (Agonia Records) [Blackened Death]
Listen to “Divine Scythe”

I come across a lot of death metal bands that try to add that blackened twist to their sound and fall flat on their faces doing it. The problem is they’re trying too hard; it seems like you either have it, or you don’t. Temple of Baal is not one of those bands. “Divine Scythe” brings the drop-tuned riffage with the ghastly delivery of a seasoned orthodox black metal band. It is black. It is death. It is evil in the best way. 10/2/15 (Spear)
