WAIT – The End of Noise (The Artisan Era) [Progressive Death Metal]

Upon first listen, I’m not entirely sure what to make of this. This isn’t the first album from WAIT– they released an EP a few years back (also via The Artisan Era)- but this is the first time I’ve really given them a dedicated listen. This first single has a lot going on, even with as relatively simple as its primary repeating syncopated riffs are, showing some semblance of Nevermore-style grooves with spooky clean guitar work and an eclectic vocal performance of crispy screams and cleans that are best described as earnest. That’s not to say they’re untrained, but they have a less overproduced feel than a lot of other bands in the same sphere of prog. It’s intriguing stuff, certainly one to watch for the full release. 2/11/22 (Spear)
