O wrathful WC, O tempestuous toilet, deliver us from the clogging nemesis that is WordPress. This week we’ve got mssng vwls, respiratory illness, and unhappy gums. The seepage below is of scant volume, but where there’s a swill, there’s a way. I trust you’ll find something worth your time in the puddle.
Thirteen Goats – Capricorn Rising (Exitus Stratagem Records) [Death / Groove Metal]
I thought the mention of goats and/or ungulate revenge fantasies in metal had all been played out. I was wrong. Thirteen Goats’ sophomore LP, Capricorn Rising, is a self-proclaimed “extreme metal rock opera” that tells a tale of hooved vengeance from beyond through the medium of groovy death metal. The vocals in the two preview tracks range from a hardcore bark reminiscent of Neck of the Woods to a layered clean style that adds an epic flair as the herds descend. Through random chance, I scrolled on bandcamp and found that the punchy production stems from none other than Vancouver king, Matt Roach. Maybe this was part of the prophecy of the Cloven Ones after all. -Roldy
