Welcome back to Tag Diving, my trash-hungry friends! You may have noticed I was absent last week. It turns out digging around in dumpsters is not the healthiest of professions. Nevertheless, I return once more to bring you some choice cuts of rotten meat!
Nucleus – Entity
Apparently everyone knows this band but me? I’m not sure how, but the name Nucleus came as a fresh sound to my ears. I’ve always liked the “cosmic death metal” sound, which Nucleus clearly has down, but if I were to compare them to another band, I’d say they sound the most like Hath. Entity has plenty of pummeling low riffs, plenty of “weedly” highs (I dunno man, that’s just what I’ve always called them), and some rock-solid drumming to drive it all forwards. They’ve definitely earned themselves a new fan and I’ll be digging through their discography in the coming weeks.

Back when I first started listening to them in 2020, this EP was rivaling Hidden History of the Human Race as my favorite release from them. It had been a while since I gave this EP a listen, so please, join me in remembering this beautiful bouquet of bangers.

Children of the Reptile – The 4 WeaponsAs Joe and Jordan have been reminding us for like three weeks straight now, trad metal is good for the soul. From Wilmington, NC (great city, by the way), Children of the Reptile have that NWoTHM sound that I crave more and more these days. Plus they’re all a bunch of nerds, with lyrics referencing The Legend of Zelda, Mobile Suit Gundam, and all sorts of fantasy stuff. I’m a sucker for bands with two lead guitarists (thank you Roldy for finally sitting me down for a Judas Priest record), so these guys have been a real treat!
What a haul! Much like fantasy, sci-fi has had a lot to give and there will likely be a sequel in the future! But for now, dig these, and if you’ve got recs for sci-fi metal, I’ll happily hear them in the comments!
