FLUSH IT FRIDAY: CAN YOU GET TO THAT?

Heidi-ho hemmorrhoid-havers!

IGoM is out again this week so it looks like you’re stuck with me again. Oh come on, don’t make that face.

Today’s a good day, friends. And I don’t want to bring it down with too much negativity, but I need to get this out of my system. I’ve seen an awful lot of AI art this week and feel like I’ve taken at least 3d6 psychic damage. It’s been all over my Twitter feed, I’ve seen it on fliers, and just last night I accidentally listened to an album with an AI-generated album cover. Truly I have been tasting the maggots in the mind of the universe. I decided this morning to undo the damage done to my soul by listening to a bit of soul.

Now I won’t pretend that this is any sort of deep cut – if you’ve ever taken any sort of dive into the world of funk/soul/psychedelic rock you’ve almost certainly heard of this album, but that’s for good reason. It rules. The intro track is absolutely legendary and I’ve long maintained the opinion that Eddie Hazel doesn’t get nearly enough love, but my favorite from the record has always been “Can You Get To That?” The moment that guitar part starts and the piano slide comes in gets me every time. George Clinton’s bass voice is unbeatable, and the lyrics on this song dude? Flawless. If you haven’t heard this album before, fix that, and whatever you do, do NOT skimp on the bonus tracks!

As a bit of a sidenote, I saw Grace Bowers & The Hodge Podge last weekend and they transitioned one of their songs into a cover of Parliament‘s “Give Up The Funk,” which has almost certainly played some role in Funkadelic being on my mind lately. Having listened to her album Wine on Venus once or twice, I thought that seeing her for free could be fun. And boy was it. If you get the chance to see them live, take it. The studio recordings absolutely pale in comparison to their live performances.

Now let’s get to flushing!
