Flush It Friday: Smelling a “Rafflesia” at the “Pig Trough” while “Begging for Food”

Or, you know, what the hell ever.
While 2025 brought us the tenth anniversary Pink tour, 2026 brings us the first-ever digital release of the Japanese version of Rainbow, the psychedelic collaboration between Boris and Michio Kurihara. It’s even possible the first time I saw Boris live was with Kurihara along for the ride. Rainbow is a singular entity in the discography of a singular act, arguably finding the band at its most experimental. For years, you couldn’t tell me this wasn’t the best Boris album. (It’s Amplifier Worship, of course.) Take half a tab or .6 grams and send yourself soaring comfortably along these otherworldly wavelengths.
Speaking of reissues. The recently mentioned Going Underground has just re-pressed both Days Slipping By and Lead Blocks for Feet from The Pine this month. Taking their cues from the legendary Evergreen, The Pine always felt like the greatest secret, a special club with very few members on the East Coast. When I sold all my vinyl in 2017 and 2018, I gifted my Pine vinyl to the only other person I knew in Atlanta who loved them like I do. Roger King’s vocals, my second-favourite behind Jeremy Enigk’s, are a true litmus test for your love of 90s emo.
From reissues to reemergence. More or less dormant for 20 years, Fayetteville’s Burned Up Bled Dry is back with 25 songs in 25 minutes of the kind of powerviolence that makes you think how sensible it was they released an EP on Slap-a-Ham in the 90s. At times, there’s an oddball catchiness that actually reminds me, spiritually, of Brutal Truth’s Sounds of the Animal Kingdom. Different records to be sure, but they both have so much weirdo swagger. This is for reasonable grindfreaks only, and even then, I think this has wider appeal owing to the old school punk backbone.
FLUSH IT, BABY!
