Incoming Signal from DARKSPACE
Can any of you nerds read Morse code?
I don’t know if the Swiss dudes in Darkspace only learned their Roman numerals up to III or if they’re just being all cryptic and enigmatic, but they’re calling their fourth album (which is set for release via Avantgarde Music on September 6th) Dark Space III I. Over the course of three releases, Wroth (a.k.a. Tobias), Zharaal and Zorgh have taught us not to doubt the quality of their output, so let’s just let them call it whatever they want. Plus, the label promises us, in adorably broken English, that III I will be “the coldest and darkest of them all four.”
Additionally, they want us to know that: “This weird Morse code message, several times transmitted, received, read and repeated, is ping-ing the dark web since a few days.” Lols.
Here it is:
-.. .- .-. -.- … .–. .- -.-. . / -.-. .- .-.. .-.. .. -. –. / -.. … … -.-. .-.-.- / — .. … … .. — -. —… / -.. .- .-. -.- / … .–. .- -.-. . / .. .. .. .. / . -. -.-. — ..- -. – . .-. .-.-.- / –. . — / -.-. — — .-. -.. .. -. .- – . … —… / ….- -…. .-.-.- —-. ….- —– ….. .—- –..– / –… .-.-.- ….- ….- …– —-. -…. .-.-.- / – .. — . —… / —– -…. ..— ..— —– —– -… … . .–. .—- ….- .-.-.- / . -. -.. / — ..-. / – .-. .- -. … — .. … … .. — -. .-.-.-
If you’re like me, you’d be marginally interested to know how hilarious this reads when it’s translated to Avantgarde Music’s version of English. You’d also be a lot more interested in the fact that Darkspace is giving us a very generous teaser of Dark Space III I. And that it’s over 7 minutes. And that it rules.
I, for one, think that the limitless depths of vacuous space as subject matter lends itself quite well to black metal in that it’s fucking horrifying. Plus, space is actually black. Just as the “color” black is actually the absorption of all colors on the visible spectrum, devouring all and leaving nothing but lightless void for your eyeballs, Darkspace does that to your feelings or something. The production is notably cleaner than I expected from them, which usually tends to disappoint me when it comes to black metal, but here it sounds great.
What do you think about the preview? I’m already making some room in my top 10 for Dark Space III I. Am I jumping to conclusions?
