We’ve got something special for you today.

Inferi is a band that needs little introduction. The tech death maestros have been peddling masterful shredding and engaging melodies since about 2006, and their most recent, Revenant, was easily one of the best technical albums of last year. Though they’ve been going for some time now, it was 2014’s The Path of Apotheosis that really brought them into the spotlight. Its predecessor, The End of an Era, is a great album in its own right that has unfortunately never really gotten its due time in the limelight.

That is about to change. What’s old is new again: we have for you today a single from The End of an Era | Rebirth, a full-on rerecording of Inferi’s 2009 opus. “Forged in the Phlegethon,” the album’s penultimate track, is also one of its strongest, showcasing the extreme virtuosity and ear for melody the band has become known for. Original drummer Eric Brown (currently of Vale of Pnath and Nekrogoblikon notoriety) returns to lay down some additional vocals on this track, and fans of the original will immediately notice substantial improvements in the production. As this is a rerecording, the band’s current lineup brings their own twists to the song as well, particularly in the drums and bass. This is all around a big step up from the original:

For comparison’s sake, here’s the 2009 version:

The difference is night and day. The End of an Era is fully deserving of a rework, and I’m very excited to see the final result. Rebirth comes out on April 12th through The Artisan Era; you can preorder a copy on Bandcamp and hit the web store for some sweet merch bundles. Inferi will also be hitting the road in the US this May alongside ArchspireVirvum, and Wormhole. That’s a ridiculously strong lineup, and you don’t want to miss it.
