On June 19th, a creature of malevolence will Spew forth upon the ears of unexpecting metalheads. It seems like the Italian label handling the release has an Everlasting supply of these sorts of nasty creations (for which we are all grateful, of course). This time, the malignancy originates in Scotland, in the form of the latest release by the long running Scordatura, featuring 10 tracks of brutality, tempered by an incisive technicality. As evidenced by bands like Origin and Suffocation, brutal death metal is better when it’s technical, and technical death metal is better when it’s brutal. As is their wont, Scordatura makes a strong case for the truth of this statement on Led Into Oblivion.

The Glasgow quartet have created a cohesive album, one that leans into common themes and a common style, but without getting boring. The songs are distinct from each other, but each carries the story forward. You can already hear the title track on the Everlasting Spew Bandcamp page. Compare that with “When The Red Moon Hangs Low” to have a glimpse of what I mean by this. Even separated by 5 tracks, the two share a cohesiveness, while each is distinct and memorable.

This tracks well with what the band has to say about the album:

We started writing the music for ‘Led Into Oblivion’ in 2021 knowing what we wanted to refine from previous releases. This is definitely the most focused record we have done to date, we spent a long time arranging the music and lyrics to ensure it is concise and to the point, with any fat stripped away. ‘Led Into Oblivion’ explores the idea of humanity slowly marching to its own doom with increasing reliance on technology & artificial intelligence. Our good friend Malcolm Abbou (Heads On Pikes) handled the recording and mixing, with the master being done by Korentin Mens and we got the incredible Paolo Girardi to paint his interpretation of our lyrics with the finished result being my favourite artwork we have ever done with the amount of depth and detail he has included in it.

The video we are premiering today shows the band playing in either some woods or what is possibly an old castle with crumbling walls and graffiti, with both locations alternating throughout. The grey and green tones work well and, though it’s been done a billion times before, seeing a band playing their song, especially with this much energy and commitment, is great to see.

Musically, the song starts with a bellow from vocalist Daryl Boyce. It sounds to me here, and at other points on the album, that there is a separate, distinct backup vocalist with a slightly different attack (more rasp, less gurgle), but with the wonders of studio trickery, this could also be Boyce. Razor sharp, down-tuned riffery is provided by guitarist Owen McKendrick. Precision percussion at insane speeds, by Tam Moran, pairs well with the thunderous artillery of Liam McCafferty on bass. Without taking more of your time on words, allow me to present the exclusive premiere of “When The Red Moon Hangs Low.”

Led Into Oblivion will be released on Digital, CD, and Cassette formats through Everlasting Spew Records on June 19, 2026 through the label’s website or Bandcamp page. Vinyl will be offered later in the year. Get in there and grab your copy of this molten filth.
