FLUSH IT FRIDAY: HAIL TO THE FIEF
I actually hate Radiohead.
Warmest of blessings, my Walmart bathroom water breachers!
How are you all? Doing well, I hope. Today is a good day. Salt Lake City-based dungeon synth/fantasy ambient artist Fief released his sixth LP after almost exactly 5 years. Like many dungeon synth nerds before me, and I’m sure plenty to come, Fief was my first introduction to the genre and remains one of my favorite artists in the scene. I didn’t even realize that he had a new album coming out until around midnight last night when I found a post on Instagram stating that there would be a new release today at 10:00 EST. Going to bed last night felt like going to sleep on Christmas Eve as a kid (albeit with a much easier time falling asleep than I had as a child).
Dungeon synth dinguses of this distinguished doodoo depository, I am pleased to inform you all that this one’s a banger. It’s all the things you’d expect it to be, plus purple! If you’ve not yet fallen victim to the delicious delicacy of dungeon dorkiness, this album could be a good one to start with. I warn you though, the slope is slippery, the folks are friendly, the tapes are all-too-affordable, and you truly never get tired of buying them.
Looking for more recommendations for artists to start with? Check out our Dungeon Crawling series, curated by the groovy and gorgeous Megachiles! Or perhaps my interview with the great Vaelastrasz, another titan of the genre if you ask me!
Hey, where are you going? No, don’t do it now. We’ve got flushing to do! Goodness, attention spans these days…
As always, Joaquin and Roldy keep fighting the good fight by bringing us The Monday Press and This Toilet Tuesday, respectively.
Speaking of the right honorable Roldy, he’s pan-fried a special premier for us from Italian death metal outfit Becerus:
Exclusive Track Premiere: Becerus – “Obfuscated by Imbecility”
Mr. Thrashnkill and Mr. Of Horror voice their opinion that AI is for perverts, a thing which many of us have suspected all along:
365 also takes some time out of his schedule to remind us to support bands and artists, to go see live shows, and that we are going to be OK:
And finally, fresh from the flatulation folds, Sir Stick pinches off a precious premier from Ethereal Darkness. I still need to check this one out myself!
And with that, the can is cleared! Thanks to all of you for reading along. If you missed any of these, be sure to give them a read! Great people are doing great work and we’re grateful to have them. Have a great day if it’s day where you are, have a wonderful evening if it’s currently dark outside, and have a great birthday if your name is Michael and today happens to be your birthday. We’d love to hear from all of you folks in the comments! There’s been plenty of suckage on the news lately, so I propose that we kick of this FIF with some G/B/Beautifuls this week.
G: I’m seeing Chat Pile and Blood Incantation next week.
B: Oh, you know.
Beautiful: You’re not gonna believe this, but I’m going to say the new Fief.
