Ghost – Rats: A Video Breakdown
It’s a g-g-g-gimmick!
It is difficult to think of another band in recent memory that has been as divisive in the metal community as Ghost. Arguments rage throughout the internet if the band is metal or pop or if the band’s gimmick is funny or dumb. Are they for non-metal normies or the oldest of old school traditionalist metal fans? Are they cool or cheesy as fuck? Has band vocalist Tobias “Papa Emeritus” Forge completely ripped off the original “Nameless Ghouls”? Lots of valid questions.
Personally, I’m “eh” on Ghost. Ritual is a decent song, but I have very little desire to explore anything else. I like a good gimmick, but theirs feels played-out. Everything about them just feels…mundane. It exists and that’s about it. It’s not worth hating, but it’s also not worth loving. The band just released a new video and it has almost three million view. Three. Million. What? Why? How? Who? Where? I guess we just have to break it down.
Now I feel like watching Robocop.
If his face were any more frozen, he’d be in Orgy.
Someone’s excited for the new Burger King Spicy Nuggets.
Herky-jerky moves that would make Elaine Benes proud.
I’m singin’ in the rain. Just singin’ in the rain.
The rat symbolizes obviousness.
I’m really not looking forward to Infinity War.
I, uh, don’t think it’s a coincidence that the rest of the band is separate from Papa or Cardinal or whatever the fuck he’s calling himself thesedays.
I assume this is what all of your 4/20 pot parties looked like.
Carach Angren would like to have a word with you about choreography in videos.

Now I gotta cut loose
Footloose, kick off the Sunday shoes
Please, Louise, pull me off of my knees
Jack, get back, come on before we crack
Lose your blues, everybody cut footloose
Ghost’s new album Prequelle is out on June 1st via Loma Vista Recordings.
