Premiere: Mason – “Burn”
Australian thrash band Mason are set to self-release their second full-length Impervious on October 8th, and we have a stream of the first single and album opener “Burn” to jam into your earholes.
The quartet has certainly honed their riff crafting skills over the course of eight years; with a previous full-length and two EPs under their bullet belts, as well as playing tons of shows in the Melbourne scene and even having come across the Pacific and toured Canada supporting Annihilator earlier this year. Though they took a short break in 2015, they came back strong with last years EP Unmerciful. And now they have another 9 tracks of unrelenting thrash mastery for us to enjoy.
I’m not gonna lie Toileteers, Mason have picked a hell of a track to open this 36 minute affair with. You got your lightning speed songcraft in the vein of Exodus and Kreator, with those machine gun style staccato riffs and an excellent solo-filled break that only the best of 80’s thrash bands and their students can conjure. Front-man James Benson even has that gruff kind of singing that Chuck Billy and Ron Reinheart honed on stage after stage, which he pulls out deftly in between his enunciated snarling for those tasty all lean hooks. Wrapped around a tight and very dry production job, “Burn” is an excellent start to an album that should fulfill that thrash shaped hole in your cerebral cortex.
Impervious will be available both digitally and physically from October 6th. Follow the band on their Facebook page for release details.
