REVIEW: Non Serviam – We Are Nothing But Your Krill

Share:

Non Serviam are back with more glitchy avant-garde black metal to shove into your ears, including a song featuring members of Agoraphobic Nosebleed.

If you liked Le Coeur Bat and the recent side project Biollante, then you’ll dig this one too. We Are Nothing But Your Krill is a lot heavier than Le Coeur Bat, and feels a little more focused.

The title track serves as a short intro to the ripping single “O My Whale,” featuring a lot of glitchy electronics and vomit-y vocals. As usual I’m sure those who speak French will be able to latch onto thematic elements a lot more, but for the rest of us the music is still rad as hell.

Track 5, “Soleil Dans Trou Blanc,” is a nice palate cleanser as we transition to more of a dark ambient direction for the second half of the record, featuring a gloomy post-rock feel that develops more IDM-influenced stylings toward the end.

The final track, featuring JR and RJ of Agoraphobic Nosebleed feels a bit at odds with the second half of the album and more like it belongs up toward the beginning. Taken as a bonus track, it’s definitely a nice feature as the sounds of Non Serviam and Agoraphobic Nosebleed complement each other quite well. I guess my only hope is these particular members aren’t the ones who drove Kat away.

If you missed out on Non Serviam the last couple times I wrote about them, make sure you pick this one up, as the group continues to be great.  They seem to be putting out work quicker than I can keep up with it, but the quality is consistent so I won’t complain.
