[intro text here]

Last week we went weird with our QXZ Edition. And while the competition was pretty close all over, the divorced Dad demographic narrowly secured weekend custody over Zimmo’s Hole.

This week our theme is riffs from tracks titled either “intro” or “introduction. Thought we’d get a few more entries for this one. Guess that serves me right for… well, just thinking in general really. Let’s see what we’ve got to vote on.

God
Balance of Terror – “Intro” (Riff @ 0:00)

This monstrous intro track comes from a now sadly defunct (I think) Death/grind group Balance of Terror. the riff starts out slow and dirty and picks up from there. a good primer to get you ready for the absolute pummeling you are in for. Also fun fact, the growls sound so much like Christian Alvestam (Miseration, Scar Symmetry, Solution .45, and more) at points that I had to check to make sure it wasn’t him.

Taz
Possessed – ‘Intro – The Heretic’ (Riff @ 0.00)

BLLERRGGG!!!! TAZ THINK ONLY ONE INTRO NAMED ‘INTRO’ WORTH A TAZZES DOO-DOO!!!!! TAZ THINK EPIC INTRO FOR ANY METAL DITTY!!!! MADE TAZ CRY WHEN TAZ WAS TAZLING LONG BEFORE TAZ GOT OLD AND GREY AND SAD!!!!

NDG
Captain Cleanoff – ‘Intro’ (Riff @ 0:31)

Everything you want from an intro. This Slayer inspired jam gets spicy at 0.31 seconds and lends itself as a perfect segue into the albums second track.

Howard Dean
Toxic Holocaust – “Intro” (Riff @ 0:05)

Most intro tracks are garbage. I’m sorry. That’s just the truth. Most can/should be skipped. Your two minutes of ocean waves/wind blowing/chains rattling/pedestrian synth playing isn’t cool, original, or particularly atmospheric. It’s boring. It’s filler. It’s unnecessary. Get to the good shit. As I was scanning through all of the tracks titled “Intro” in my collection, 99% were as described. Total bullshit. But I found a couple noteworthy ones. “Intro” on Nokturnal Mortum’s The Voice of Steel is a really awesome folk tune, and the “Introitus” track on Defeated Sanity’s Chapters of Repugnance actually has a bass drop and a decent slam. Tough choices. But “Intro” on Toxic Holocaust’s Hell on Earth was hands down the riffiest intro track I found. ~1 minute of breakneck thrashing. The main riff is fucking nice. Check it out.

Hans
We Love Katamari – ‘Introduction’ (Riff @ 0:11)

Not so much because I’m tipsy and sending this in last minute, more because this whole god damn soundtrack is the shiznit, and you know it.

Lacertilian
Sepultura – ‘Intro’ (Riff @ 0:41)

Had a few lesser known options on hand for this but since it wasn’t sent in I’m gonna have to be the one to do it. Would be fucking criminal for this not be included with this theme. The live in Barcelona ’91 VHS version of this copped a thrashing back in high school. Smash that motherfuckin rewind button, and wait patiently.
