Riff Of The Week: S Edition
Riffs from Seance, Sutrah, Slugdge, Sanguisugabogg, Solstice, Sentient Divide, Symphony X, and Scum.
Last week for our 2010 Edition we had a few good submissions and Immolation should have won by the looks of it.
This week we asked for riffs from bands starting with S
Here’s what you sent in…
tigeraid
Solstice – ‘Hammer of Damnation’ (Riff @ 0:00)
Opening riff is both mighty and true. Current Solstice rules, but old Solstice had some bangers too.
Slimylimey
Slugdge – ‘Slave Goo World’ (Riff @ 0:00)
Some seriously heavy slime from the lime
Holdeneye
Symphony X – “Reign in Madness” (Riff @ 3:20)
I have never understood how this track was a bonus tacked onto a 2-CD version, because I think it’s one of the coolest SX songs ever. Michael Romeo’s grooving riff sounds simpler than it really is and evolves over then next minute plus. Yummy.
Gojira_Blume
Scum – ‘Trilogian Tales’ (Riff @ 3:33)
It was either them or Spirit Adrift. Went with a track from Scum’s “Garden of Shadows” because it has a funnier back story and it is a decent slab of epic death metal.
McNulty
Sutrah – ‘Variation I.ii – Lethe’ (Riff @ 0:00)
My pick is from an EP that’s probably incredible (it’s getting v gud reviews so far). The main riff in this song is a good riff. Listen and enjoy. Don’t forget to vote… in this competition and IRL!
Megachiles
Sentient Divide – ‘Eternal Conviction’ (Riff @ 4:16)
This whole song is good, but this outro riff just hits different.
vanNeun
Sanguisugabogg – ‘Perverse/Deranged’ (Riff @ 0:20)
I hereby invoke Gorak.
Lacertilian
Seance – ‘Wind Of Gehenna’ (Riff @ 0:13)
Lots of recent stuff up there, so I’m throwing in an underappreciated 90’s gem this week.
Next week our theme is Ireland
Send in riffs from Irish bands
