Tech Death Thursday: First Fragment
Cherish these moments with your face, for they are its last.
Welcome back to another edition of TDT! We’ve got a really special band for you guys today, but first let’s take a look at some news:
-On a very depressing note, Beyond Creation have parted ways with bassist Dominic ‘’Forest’’ Lapointe. Info on that can be found on their Facebook. I really hope they can find a way to continue the band, but at the same time, finding someone else capable of having sex with a fretless like he did is going to be a challenge. The band has since posted an update saying Beyond Creation will continue and that this is only the beginning of a very long career for them.
-On a much happier note, Cattle Decapitation posted on their Facebook that they have finished recording vocals! You can shit yourself with excitement here.
– A Loathing Requiem posted a teaser for the their upcoming album. You can check that out here.
–Gorod have released a guitar playthrough for the song “5000 at the Funeral”. Check that out here.
–Abiotic have released their first single from their upcoming new album Casuistry titled “Cast Into the Depths”, and it features guest vocals from John Gallagher of Dying Fetus. I have always really liked this band’s instruments, but the vocals had a tendency to turn me off. Now they have a new vocalist and I’m digging this song quite a bit. You can check out the song here.
That should be it for news unless I’m a liar and totally missed something. Let me know in the comments.
Today we’re talking about a band out of Longueuil, Québec called First Fragment. I’ve lost track of the amount of tech death bands that are from Canada. I always find it funny that one of the nicest countries produces some of the most brutal face metlting music. Anyway, the band dropped their debut Ep titled The Afterthought Ecstasy back in 2010. Unique Leader Records picked up the band last year and will be issuing their debut sometime this year. On first listen, this band reminds me a lot of Sophicide. The drums have the fury of an out of control freight train and are unbelievably fast at times. The riffing is just incredible. I really like the varied intros this band adds too. Things like a piano or soft guitar playing or even just a scream fading in really enhance the track, and it just sounds that much more awesome when it inevitably explodes your face. First Fragment is mind meltingly technical without letting themselves get lost in simply being technical. Each of their songs has a clear song structure that is different from the song before it. If you ask me, this band is on another level than most other bands that are at this stage in their career. Mark my words, their new album is going to make top ten lists. If you like them, don’t forget to follow them on Facebook and give them a few bucks on Bandcamp.
Lastly, just a quick announcement. TDT has its own email now so anything you would like to submit can be sent to toiletovhelltdt@gmail.com.
That’s it for today. Have a great rest of the week and until next time,
