This Toilet Tuesday (12/17/24)
O Deepest Bowl, Prefect of the Plungéd Pantheon, lend thy support to our tired loins! This week we’ve got trog death, half-life metal (sadly, no Crowbar), and a lost relative ov the Toilet. The waters remain low this late in December, but the variety of genres on display should tide us over for these last few weeks of the waning year. My stinky divers: skim the shallows and let us know what we missed!
Genuflexión – Donde la razón posa su fuego (Sons of Hell Prod.) [Black]
Since the release of their debut LP in 2016, Genuflexión has been putting out some of the best black metal in Argentina. Their 4th album, Donde la Razón Posa su Fuego, does not disappoint and might be their best yet. The band expertly balances guttural vocals and driving riffs with tasteful keyboards and spoken word, creating a sound that is ritualistic and sinister. The production is fantastic and there are some melodies pretty enough to get stuck in your head. While you can clearly hear the influence of the black metal bands that came before them (I’m hearing lots of ’90s Norway here), Genuflexión blend their influences together in a way that is distinctive enough to make their own mark. -Professor Guanaco
