This Toilet Tuesday (12/22/20)
It’s Toilet Tuesday, my friends, and a bit of a slow one in my estimation. Not that I mind; the impending holiday has cut my work week in half, and I’m already mentally checked out. Hans has picked out something that might tickle your fancy, and while nothing else really caught my interest, that’s not to say there might not be something for you down in that list.
Demvr – December Blues (Independent) [Blackgaze]

The wall of genre tags on the Bandcamp page seemed to suggest that this might be interesting, and indeed, I can’t say I’ve heard this approach to blackgaze or depressive black metal before. Despite the plodding tempo, there’s a lot going on in the beginning, with constant synths, half-buried clean vocals and piercing guitar lines all vying for your attention before the song dials everything back a bit. Said vocals and the amount of reverb indicate that the project takes the “-gaze” part seriously, and while not everything works out here, this should still merit checking out in full come Christmas morning. 12/25/20 (Hans)
